Taormina - Top Places You Must Go
This bustling tourist town in the Messina region of this famed isle, probably most associated with The Godfather, is a little slice of paradise. This town has a fascinating history spanning from Hollywood to Romans which you could get lost in. However, whether it’s the wild strawberries sold on the back of 3-wheeled vans or dining in the Ashbee Hotel’s restaurant - with it’s new michelin starred chef. The food in Taormina is second to none.
While there are numerous restaurant, bars and cafes to dine in here, there are some you must visit. First, The Bam Bar, this traditional Sicilian cafe is popular with tourists and locals a like as well as the occasional celebrity. Serving up the best granitas in Italy! With delicious seasonal and year-round flavours, that are as my mum likes to say “air-conditioning for your insides”, it is the perfect treat for a hot sicilian day or perhaps if you want to be more authentic then you could do as the locals and have this for breakfasts with a brioche. Next is La Pignolata Guinness. This off the beaten track bakery is the best in Taormina! It’s traditional cannoli are delicious and you must try the pistachio butter. But their hidden gem is the orange and lemon flavoured biscuits which are the perfect morning snack. If it’s dinner you’re after then look no further than La Tavernetta. While at night, the restaurants on the Corso Umberto are heaving, this jewel hidden in the backstreets is the perfect place to enjoy the balmy Sicilian nights. Before a night out, visit the rooftop bar at the Ashbee Hotel where you enjoy the sunset over cocktails and the best spread of appetizers you’ve ever seen. Seriously you won’t need a starter at dinner. And to end your night, look no further than Daiquiri. If you’re lucky enough to get a seat then this is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail and people watch.
